Growth hormone axis
GHRP-6
Also known as: SKF-110679
One of the first growth hormone secretagogues discovered. GHRP-6 is a synthetic hexapeptide that strongly stimulates growth hormone release and also has ghrelin-like effects on appetite.
Structure
- Sequence
- His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂
- Molecular formula
- C₄₆H₅₆N₁₂O₆
- Molecular weight
- 873 Da
- Amino acids
- 6
- Half-life
- ~20–30 minutes
Mechanism of action
GHRP-6 activates the ghrelin receptor and triggers dose-dependent growth hormone release from the pituitary. It also acts on hypothalamic neurons and can potentiate endogenous GHRH release.
