Longevity
NAD+
Also known as: Nicotinamid-Adenin-Dinukleotid, Coenzym, NAD
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is an essential coenzyme found in all living cells. It is central to energy metabolism, DNA repair and cellular ageing and is a focus of longevity research.
Structure
- Sequence
- Nicht-peptidisch (Dinukleotid-Coenzym)
- Molecular formula
- C₂₁H₂₇N₇O₁₄P₂
- Molecular weight
- 663.43 Da
- Amino acids
- n/a (not a peptide)
Mechanism of action
NAD+ carries electrons in the redox reactions of metabolism (glycolysis, citric acid cycle, oxidative phosphorylation). It is also the substrate of sirtuins and PARP enzymes, which control epigenetic regulation and DNA repair.
